Merry Christmas... Fuck the 80's

Don't get me started on the 80's!  I love them, I hate them, they were the best, they were the worst.  At least some of the criminals went to jail but given the state of affairs today that punishment wasn't much of a deterrent.

But still, the 80's are at least inspiring to paint!  I really like how this one ended up! Here's how it started a few weeks ago: http://alexanderschaefer.blogspot.com/2013/02/fuck-80s.html.  I remember a teacher of mine Harry Carmean relaying an old school French academic painting doctrine: "Starve your painting of red, and then give it a few brushstrokes at the very end." This painting is like the complete opposite of that advice, it's a feast of red and orange and starved of blue! I'm not usually a big fan of red and orange but I really enjoyed them this time, it's amazing to see how crazy you can get with the color, I'm getting scary Venetian these days!  oil on canvas, 36 by 36
