hey alex,
nice portrait again:)
What are your secrets to portrait draw-paint-ing??
The distance of eyes to mouth? The shape of the mouth (like in this portrait).. i know its different all the time..but...?
I have problems with the chin and jaw (just discovert :))
I feel like I should make a video about this... I start with an ovoid shape that approximates the shape of the person's whole head. Then I go right for the eyebrow line and its relationship to the ear; this says everything about the tilt and angle of the head and defines the main division between the front and side of the head. then I go for the bridge of the nose, the placement of the eyes, and I'm careful to note the distances from the bottom of the nose to the center and corners of the mouth to the middle and bottom of the chin. The main thing about drawing is to have a clear idea of 'perfect' vertical and horizontal and make comparisons of the angles you see versus the perfect you know. That's why artists used to hang a plumb line between them and the model, but you really only need a mental plumb line! ahahah! like I said, maybe I should make a video?
VLOG reply :)
