This is episode number 2, another show Painting the Town! I was a little worried how things would go without John, but I've done 20 minute portraits before at shows and Nathan is a good friend plus we had the footage we shot at Tommy's Burgers so that made me feel better. Enjoy the show! by the way here is a shot of the portrait, it looks like Nathan a bit, maybe a little bit bent here and there! ahahah!
Hello Alex I haven't quite understood the concept of the local color? Well ok I know, you explained it from the banana kind of view - äh I mean you explained from the color the banana has in neutral light. But as i undstood ever full color has a gray-value some is bright (like yellow) some dark (like blue). So what u wanted to say is, hat every color (letz say comming out of the tube) has a value on its own like u take a black and while-photo of that color. But on the other hand you can mix the colors values down (more brownisch/darkish) or up (whitisch, yellowisch).
Sometime I like to se my painting in BlacknWhite :)
hmm. What I'm going to try to explain on the show is about creating the illusion of chiaroscuro with paint. The colors of my jacket, hand, and banana have a relationship in terms of the differences between them in color and value. Whether I look at those colors in white light, or red light or green light I can still feel in my mind the differences between these colors, their relationship. When I paint chiaroscuro, I create two sets of this relationship, one at a higher value and one at a lower value, put them next to each other and you have light and form! It's elementary and algebraic, but a very important concept to have an understanding of in your mind.
I got the Bob Ross t-shirt at Target a few years ago, but I haven't seen them for sale since. They might be for sale somewhere on the internet!
