Diana in the blue dress and east LA

I had Diana back in my garden to sit for another session. It's all about arriving at a total finish to the painting, so I work to bring the entire piece up together, rather than focus on getting one spot "perfect" at the expense of the whole effect. I find Diana to be utterly beautiful, and I don't know if anything I might paint of her would do her justice. Nonetheless, she helps me to make new works of art and I love her for that! So here's a work in progress, there's a lot "wrong" with it but at the same time there's a lot "right"... 36 by 24.

Also, here's a sketch of another captivating location in east LA, this is the 710/60 interchange from the other side, at the corner of 3rd and Ford.

Liz, work in progress

I had Liz over today to stand for me in the backyard. Besides being beautiful, she really is a patient model, I wonder what it's like for her to stand there while I flail away on the canvas? AAHAHA! I gave her a head to toe repainting wet into wet; trying to keep the color as intense and saturated without being noticable. I'm very pleased with the outcome thus far! here's how it started off: the nude outdoors

urban landscape: east Los Angeles

I'm planning to do five mini landscapes by the end of the month for a small show at El Gallo Cafe... I thought it'd be fun to include their store in the show! It's a cool building with real potential to become a thriving, artistic urban center. The other drawing was from under the 710/60 interchange. Once I scout and sketch a couple more places, I'm going to hit them with my painting kit.

live painting

At Found gallery I decided to do one large painting that tried to capture all the people there working away rather than multiple portraits. It was really fun! Everyone enjoyed themselves and with the two hours that I got to work on the piece, I was happy with how it came out. I was fun to do! Then after that I went to the Hive gallery and did a quick sketch of the artist Laura Diamond. The first painting is acrylic 36 by 24 and the portrait is alkyd 12 by 9.

life painting Saturday!

Tomorrow Jan 5th there's two galleries that I'm painting 25 minute portraits: From 6pm to 9pm at Found gallery in Silverlake and then after that at the Hive until they close at 1:30am. These have been fun to do and you can see a bunch of them here at my Flickr sight. I wonder who I'll get to paint?
