color fade

I've been busy repainting the minis in oil on top of the acrylic underpainting. I'm trying to treat each mini like a Howard Hodgkin; very succinct and orchestrated brushstrokes loading the gradation right into the brush and slapping it on in one fell swoop. The photo here is arranging a few of the paintings as they might appear at the show, random with regard to their imagary and arranged according to color and value. This one goes from red to orange and fading light/dark/light. It's a lousy photo but you get the idea.

micro-gestalt

these are work in progress pics of a series of paintings for a collaborative show coming in January ( info at http://www.orphanage-art.com click 'shows' then 'upcoming' ) There are 63 mini paintings each one 3.5" square. In the installation, the little mini paintings will be all mixed up and randomly re-arranged solely by color along with the works of four other painters so the image of the woman won't be recognizable at all save a few details here and there. but I'm painting them all at once as a singular image for fun and because then the separate paintings will work with the secondary color read of the installation. Make sense? There are also another 42 minis already done, and 20 pure abstracts that I'm also working on at the same time. So 125 total! whew!

painting in San Diego

Here are a series of pics of a painting I did over the holidays down in San Diego. Some of the preliminary drawings as well as pictures of the painting in progress. The final painting is 30 by 48 and it was painted entirely from life and on location. All these images are the same size so those who know photoshop can make a layered file and click through the stages which is kinda fun. The dogs are my parents' Boston Terriers Willy and Toby. I'm sorry that in one of the photos I'm blocking part of the canvas! oops! ^_^
